So as I promised to share interesring and vintage So as I promised to share interesring and vintage amps that cross my path, here we go again: The @laneyamplification Supergroup 60 came in for a single purpose: make it the best non-master style amp it can be! (these "do as you please to make it outstanding" jobs are the most exciting ). After the usual retube and recap, we gave a circuit a little massage to accept the KAOS mojo: increased picking dynamic and guitar vol pot response, a touch of more gain, a bit less "hair" in the sound. Turned out stellar, swipe for the video, @gibsonguitar LP straight into the amp! The chassis has been upgraded with M6 sheet metal nuts and the backside's woodwork has been redone too for secure fastening. The cute small green gem is a @framusguitarsofficial Solo amp from 1950's! 3w pocket amp from 70 years ago, how cool is that? Cap/tube job, relocating the volume control from the input to between stages, and got a speaker out jack. How does it sounds on a 4x12? Swipe till the end to find out. The rebuild of the preamp section based on our rock series amps' resulted a several class higher quality and feel and overall dynamics of the sound. Even it s just an 1w (ecc82 push pull power section) pocket amp, now it is a real contender if you mic it up on a good cabinet. As suspected from the fireplace-like sounds from the speaker, the tubes were in less then ideal condition. Got a retube, updated the lead channel's circuit to the latest version, changed the led sockets, re-mounted the faceplate (must have gotten a hit someday in the last 13 years), and she's ready to rock again. So a client approached me that he has a botched '7 So a client approached me that he has a botched '70s Hiwatt 100 watt amp he grabbed for a bargain, with a badly executed, feedbacking, cracking jcm800'ish mod, can we make something useful out of it? Well, of course we could! This type of mod work is my favorite, bringing a screwed up classic back into new life with new meaning. Got a complete rebuild of the insides, a preamp and loop based on our rock series amps, a gain boost switch, and a "plexi mode" switch that bypasses the middle gain stage of the 3. Also a new face and rear plate, and a depth control in the power amp. Damn, these Hiwatt irons are good, tight and punchy, with plenty of headroom. I can say Hiwatt transformers are the best of all of the old English ones.
